My Google Activitie
This weekend I made a trip from my home in Bordeaux to Montpellier, the city where I hold most of my Google projects. I spent time with the students, meeting people and exchanging ideas about the development of web technologies. Here are a few reflections:
The web is the tool for all our projects and studies
One of the common questions I encounter from students and parents is: “What is the web for?” My answer is always the same: it’s the tool for everything. Our projects are an opportunity to see how the web evolves, so it is fundamental for us to be able to look at any phenomenon from this perspective. In our studies, we use the web because it’s a tool that allows us to create all kinds of projects, from simple games to full-scale web applications. And, of course, to learn about the technology of the web.
From Google Tango I learnt about augmented reality
During this trip, I also had the chance to visit Google Tango. I took a look around and I enjoyed talking with the team, especially with Mark Saffo, who is also in France for this weekend. It was really interesting to discover how the technology works and how the team is approaching the technology: they have a strong focus on the 3D space and are uniquely using the real-world environment.
There is a lot of work to do, but some things are really awesome
Talking about my studies I was surprised how the world evolves around me. I see that the web is expanding and it’s clear that it’s the most important technology for the future. Google is one of the leading companies in this space, and it’s really interesting to see how they are pushing forward on this new frontier. I also met some people from the web that I never met before, like for instance Adrien N., who is involved in the European Network for the Open Web. He explained to me how the web is developing in the European Union, and how there are interesting initiatives for the web industry.
